Being adopted means to me that something is taken away from me the moment I arrived in the Netherlands to start a new life. But with that new life came also an opportunity to develop myself into the person I am, which is sometimes so colorful, wonderful, painful, sad and beautiful. With my artwork I try to visualize my thoughts and emotions on being an adoptee from Korea, raised in the Netherlands. Always trying to find a balance between Dutch culture and Korean background.
With POPA I would like to contribute to more positive passion in peoples life through my colorful paintings and artworks. With my artworks I would like to bring people closer to their own passions. These are my colors, my shapes I use to express myself. But what I feel doesn't have to relate to other peoples feelings, but it can be a starting point to express oneself. The bright colors, the simple 2-dimensional shapes I use in my paintings seem so happy, so playful, almost childish. But there is a meaning behind it, that starts with a feeling. That feeling can grow into a passion.
