POPA means POsitive PAssion.
POPA is a new art-movement which brings positivity through it's art. The POPA-ART is defined by bright colours and paintings which should bring happiness to the viewer. Paintings which shows tolerance about other cultures, and people as individuals. The founders of this movement are: Barbara van Druten, Susana López and Soon Ja Terwee. 10% of every sold artwork will be donated to an organization supporting children.

Rembrandt van Rijn
Rembrandt van Rijn, the worldwide famous painter, was born in Leiden, the Netherlands, on July the 15th 1606, 399 years ago. For Leiden it was a great excuse to celebrate this occasion in the historic parts of this old city. Leiden changed itself into the days of the 17th century, just as POPA! We were dressed in 17th century clothes for the occasion, have a look at the photo below to see the result! POPA guided a workshop for children during the Rembrandt Festival. There was a great atmosphere and the children took part in the workshop with a lot of enthusiasm. It was a bright, sunny and inspiring day!

POPA&Friends exhibition
From the 18th till the 24th of July a special exhibition named 'POPA&friends' took place in Sidac Studio Leiden. This was the first exhibition in co-operation with our 'friends'. The participating artists were Heleen Rittershaus, Marian Lieuwen, Melissa van Grondelle, Yennifer Holswilder, Fred van de Siepkamp, Martje van de Meerendonk, Hanny Wouters van Esterik, Wieteke Hendrikx, Zoolu, Marianne Bey, Lilian van der Schaaf, Iris Fernee and of course the POPA-ladies Barbara van Druten, Susana L—pez en Soon Ja Terwee.
Above artists work with different technics. At the exhibition people could see textile art, photography, sculptures, kids-art and contemporary art. POPA believes it's important to show the amount of positivity in people through art. Especially since nowadays there's often a negative view of the world and humanity. Naturally 10% of the sales during this exhibition was donated to the organizations supporting children. There were many great and even emotional reactions from visitors!

Since the interview in Elegance of March 2005, POPA has had many friend requests from artists who have the same vision as POPA. The resulted selection includes 35 POPA-friends who's work can be looked at through the POPA website. The selection of the artists was based on the positivity that their work shows and the thought behind the artwork. Many artists claim they want bring joy to people through their art. The exhibition was overwelmingly happy!

The party on Sunday the 24th was filled with people interested in POPA and with the local press! All together a great succes. Have a look at the photo's!

Radio West had an interview with POPA, with the POPA&friends exhibition amongst other items as subject. (Have a look at the photo below).

POPA workshop for Roemanian Children.
In Schagen, Wednesday the third of August, a 'playday' will be organised by Europa Kinderhulp for Roemanian children coming to holiday in Europe.
At 11.00 o'clock the day will be officially opened by the mayor of Schagen, sir G. Westerink.
From 14.00 uur till 16.00 uur there's a POPA-workshop for the Roemanian children. The meaning of this day is to let people connect. 'Hostfamilies' can meet up with other families and the Roemanian children can meet up with eachother.

Positivity
Since our rapid start of POPA we have collected a great amount of money for 'our' organizations supporting children. We are surpriced ourselves to be actually able to influence people in a positive way. It's incredible to us to see the snowball-effect taking place. Action is reaction, and that's why we're doing this!
